I think it's awesome when I can sit and look back at my origins, say 'hey, look at me, im Italian', Im so proud of my origins the only thing is that when i think of them Im not only Italian, but also have scottish and australian blood. Im proud of all this, i think it's rather wrong to call this 'patriotic', I'd just say ' pride' or don't even know how to call it, im just happy to be it. People sometimes don't understand shit about the way of being, but fuck them I don't want ta talk about them, I'd just say, ain't it cool when the nation u were born in means something to you plus if you are american and you have Italian, french, german or Irish origins, you're not afraid to talk about it with other people, but happy to show it?!
In the end i feel pretty much like what they call 'a citizen of the world', but i think it would be pretty stoopid to spit on the flag of your own country....plus I'd never go somewhere shootin' other people for the nation i represent, if you know what i mean...

Re: What's the point of not being a 'patriot'...
Mon, May 29, 2006 - 2:47 AMYea well, there is more than a way to show your respect and the way you feel to the nation you live in and were born in, I'd say I'd kinda choose the way of not showing it off and I think it is very important to keep the communication with all other races, this is what keeps my spirit going and there's no need of being a patriot or if you wanna be...
peace and a hug to everyone that's out there. -

Re: What's the point of not being a 'patriot'...
Thu, July 6, 2006 - 6:45 PMI think patriotism (and obviously nationalism) go south when My Country becomes The Best, or Better Than Your Country.
What I love about Italy: Naples, Venice, Roma... History, little old ladies arguing with fishmongers, the best gelato, the FOOD, the beautiful women, the fashion and the way people care about how they look, the passion, the architecture, the nutty saint cadavers behind glass in the churches, the old houses... the list goes on.
It's Italy, it's amazing, and I'm happy to have it in my blood. -

Re: What's the point of not being a 'patriot'...
Sat, July 29, 2006 - 8:33 AMWell the point of it all was for me that I fuckin' hate when those guys cum up to me and say 'hey dude, u can't be patriotic or nationalistic because only Hitler was in Germany and Mussolini was in italy...' those guys can really .....I really proud of my latin blood and all of my origins...problem is for me that i have three passports and i care about all of 'em, proud of where my family comes from, the place i ws born in and where i aczually live in. -

Re: What's the point of not being a 'patriot'...
Sat, July 29, 2006 - 2:27 PMI can relate to this - I'm so proud of my ancestry...(my family is from Siena)
and I really like the points made about how patriotism can be negative (better than the rest) as well as good...
It's really such an emotional thing for an Italian to BE an Italian, like when we won the world cup - it wasn't great because we felt we were the best - we know lots of other teams played just as well as us during the tournament...it's just the amazing feeling and strong pride in our culture which really we have a lot to be proud about - I mean hell - look at the Rennaisance...the Etrsucans, the Romans, the fashion, the food, la campagne, the art...and then we laugh when we look at our politics because we don't actually take ourselves so seriously to actually believe we are better...
